Perth & North Perthshire Conservatives have selected Peter Lyburn as their Westminster Candidate to fight the next General Election. Peter Lyburn (24) was selected on Saturday 20 September at the Isle of Skye Hotel, Perth. Peter has spent his whole life in Perthshire. He was born in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee in April 1984. Peter went to Coupar Angus Primary School and received his secondary education at Strathallan School, Perth. After school Peter attended the Scottish Agricultural College in Edinburgh. During his time in Edinburgh, Peter and others set up charitable events which have now become a long running fixture in the capital city's calendar. One event is the FARM Africa Ball, which is held each year to help raise money to buy tools for African farmers and has raised over £60,000 to date. Currently Peter works all across the UK but is based in Perthshire at the family farm. He is managing the expansion of a UK wide recycling firm and intends to return in the future to the family farm near Coupar Angus, which concentrates on the production of potatoes, cattle and daffodils. Peter previously stood for the Scottish Parliament in 2007 in the constituency of Dunfermline West, where Peter increased the Conservative vote after his efforts to reach out to all corners of the community. Commenting on his selection, Peter said: "It is an honour to have been chosen as the Scottish Conservative Westminster Candidate for Perth and North Perthshire. I am delighted that I have been given the chance to fight really hard for the people that I have grown up around and for the area that I have grown up in. "I am excited about getting out campaigning and I hope to use the time from now till the general election to meet as many people in Perth and North Perthshire as possible. I hope that when people meet me they will see me for what I really am - just a local guy trying to make our local area a better place for everyone to live in. "Perth has not really been taking the strides forward that it should have over the past decade. It is a very pleasant city but at night there can be problems on the streets and during the day it lacks the transport and community links to Edinburgh and Glasgow that will really allow it and the local businesses to grow as they deserve. "It is a privilege to be selected to fight for Perth and North Perthshire. I will stand up for our area at every opportunity and fight for a better deal for all residents." Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser welcomed Peter's selection as the Conservative candidate. He said: "I congratulate Peter Lyburn on being selected as the Conservative Westminster Candidate for Perth and North Perthshire. "I have known Peter for a number of years and I know that he will work extremely hard for the local area and for every constituent. Peter is an able young man from a local family that has deep roots in the constituency. Peter will make an excellent MP for the people of Perth and North Perthshire."
