SNP FAILING ON THE A9

At the start of the new year, MSP Murdo Fraser has criticised the SNP Government for failing to take action on dualling the A9 between Perth and Inverness during its two and half of years since being in power.

Murdo Fraser wants the SNP Government to set out a full timetable and costings to A9 dualling in its entirety between Perth and Inverness in 2010.

Commenting, Murdo said:

"The SNP Government has been in over for over two and a half years yet there is still no commitment to A9 dualling in its entirety from Perth to Inverness even though this was a pledge of the SNP.

"It seems when it comes to the A9 that the SNP Government is able to give warm words but little action. Much of the investment into the A9 over the last two years has been as a result of the previous Scottish Exceutive's commitment to the road. The SNP Government must be bold and decisive in 2010 and commit to the A9 upgrade to dual carriageway status between Perth and Inveress. The Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson has been in his role since May 2007 and we are still waiting for a timetable and dedicated funding for the A9.

"The SNP Government must show to the people of Perthshire that they will keep their manifesto pledge and dual the A9. It is clear to me that the A9 is one of the roads in Scotland that needs urgent action and upgrading to dual carriageway status between Perth and Inverness. 2010 must be the year that we see a commitment to dualling of the A9 between Perth and Inverness."
