“This serious accident on the A9 near Pitlochry is sad news and will be a very distressing time for family and friends.
“There needs to be a thorough investigation into this accident to determine what happened. As we already know, there is a very large accident rate on the single carriageway sections of the A9.
“As the A9 is the main artery between the Highlands and the Central Belt, each accident causes major disruption to all road-users. I have been campaigning for a number of years for investment to upgrade the this road to dual carriageway in its entirety from Perth to Inverness. I realise that dualling the A9 will not end accidents but it is clear that dualling this road will greatly reduce the number of accidents and save lives.
“This sad event underlines that we must see real investment in the A9 to reduce the accident and fatality rate.”
