Meeting the public in Perth

Out in Perth and North Perthshire
Over the past couple of months I have been out and about all over Perth and North Perthshire meeting a whole mix of people from a wide range of backgrounds. A couple of these made a real impact on me: the YMCA in Perth where Ian Marr is working tirelessly to help the younger folks in Perth realise their full potential, and Perth College where Mandy Exley and her team are driving forward their ambition of University status. Farmers markets, community meetings, school plays - there is so much fantastic stuff going on and it is real pleasure to be able to see it all.
The team have also met many members of the public whilst out canvassing and leafleting and I am happy to say that overall I have received a very positive response. People want Brown out and they are beginning to realise that the Conservatives are the only party who provide a real alternative.

Delivery network
We are currently trying to set up a delivery network across the constituency for the hand delivery of campaign literature, particularly in the urban areas. At the moment we rely on people coming out at weekends to deliver in one specific area, which can sometimes be a little inefficient. Our aim eventually is to have the whole constituency covered by a delivery network and this is where you come in…
We are looking for people to take on a ‘run’ in their local area. Each run is made up of 200 houses or so and generally takes 1 – 2 hours to complete (depending on the area). You would not have to deliver on your own street if you so wished and all literature would be delivered to your door at your convenience. Too good to be true, I know… If you think you could take on a run, please contact Joe Dawson on 01738 553990 or pnpconservatives@btconnect.com
On top of this, we are out and about most Saturdays. The structure of the campaign means that there is a regular action with leafleting, charity action work, canvassing and visits. I heartily thank all of you who have come out so far and encourage all of you who haven’t. The more people we have, the more we get done and the more fun we have (plus we always try and have a drink afterwards). I will keep you informed of any forthcoming dates and hope very much to see you there.

Canvassing
We have also made progress on the canvass front with a canvass schedule drawn up for the next two months. As I mentioned earlier, the response on the doorstep has been very positive and we hope to cover the entire constituency by June next year. As with the delivery network, we are always looking for people to join our canvass team even if you were only able to lend one evening a month – everything helps and everything is hugely appreciated. If you could lend some of your time to canvassing, please do not hesitate to contact Joe Dawson on 01738 553990 or pnpconservatives@btconnect.com

Annabel Goldie, Scottish Conservatives Leader

Annabel Goldie and David Cameron
I am very pleased to announce that Annabel Goldie, the leader of the Conservatives in the Scottish Parliament, will be visiting Perth and North Perthshire on 27th February 2009. We plan to visit a number of projects and groups throughout the constituency and hope to give you all a chance to ask any burning questions at a “Goldie Direct” event. More details to follow.
A little further off but no less important, Perth will be playing host this year to the Scottish Conservative Conference where David Cameron will be making the closing speech. I hope to get as many of you as possible along to see the next Prime Minister speak, and it provides us with a great opportunity to get lots more people involved in the day-to-day activities of the party. I will keep you all informed.
If you have read through this and are a little unsure of what it all means, or a little unsure of what help you can offer, please don’t hesitate to contact Joe Dawson on 01738 553990 or pnpconservatives@btconnect.com
I am trying to build this campaign up so that lots of people, old faces and new, are involved. If you are able to give up just a little of your time every month, it would have a huge impact.
I look forward to seeing you all very soon.
